My name is Amu Ilavarasan and I’m a junior at the University of Oregon Clark Honors College majoring in Product Design and minoring in Computer Science.
I grew up in Portland and I’ve been drawing my whole life. Some of my first work is pictured.
I’m well-versed in analog and digital illustration, graphic design, apparel design, woodworking, and sewing. I primarily work in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Procreate; I can also code in Python, C, and a digital artists’ language called Processing.
I believe design is a crucial part of social progress, and products are on the front-line: the tools we use daily mediate our interactions with and shape our perception of our surroundings. Design scaffolds our worldview. I’m interested in creating products that are easy to understand, long-lasting, functional, high-quality, sustainable, and beautiful. I want to use design as a tool to contribute to radical change.
When I’m not designing, I love to play piano, skateboard, ride my motorcycle, cook, and watch movies.
